I become this question and so much ok, you can't just make your edit any size and and then expect it to wait skillful on tumblr. The best width to apply if you're just posting 1 moving picture is 540 px and the max height that tin go is 810 px. If you wanna have 2 edits beside each other the max width is 268px and the max elevation is 600px. And so if you want iii beside each other go with 177px wide and max 400px acme. I've honestly never understood this.

I only resize my pictures because I take them at huge resolutions (up of 4k), and I resize them down to ~1440p merely for file size and uploading bandwidth purposes (so my concluding pictures I upload to tumblr are around one-7mb in size, every bit opposed to anywhere from 15-60+mb).

My pictures look just fine.

In terms of maximum elevation, the only rule I've come across is that when placing ii or 3 pictures next to each other they should be of similar superlative or the taller ones volition exist cropped and not display properly.
